UXO – or unexploded ordnance – includes bombs, shells, and munitions left over from past military activity that failed to detonate. Often buried and forgotten, they can be uncovered decades later during excavation,
piling, or groundwork.
They remain volatile and dangerous.
Armaex is a professional detection company, specializing in advising, supporting, and carrying out all types of detection and approach work involving bombs, grenades, mines, and ammunition, or explosive remnants of war.
A UXO risk assessment is a structured process designed to identify the likelihood of encountering unexploded ordnance (UXO) on or near a project site. It draws on historic evidence, military records, aerial imagery and other specialist data to determine whether there is a significant risk, and if further investigation or mitigation is needed.
For projects to run smoothly and successfully, a project plan is essential. It provides a detailed overview of the planned work and activities related to the detection and possible discovery of explosive remnants of war.
Using modern detection techniques, the area is being scanned for water and soil disturbances. The results of the water and soil disturbance detection are digitally recorded and analyzed.
After completion of the investigation team's work, the explosive remnants of war found will be transferred to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the Ministry of Defence.
